This Shiloh Saturday my foraging dog found the biggest mullein patch I’ve ever seen! On a sunny walk, he discovered this behemoth plant that was much, much bigger than him!
I normally find small patches of mullein when foraging with a few salvageable leaves, but this week Shiloh was quite the expert forager and ran and sniffed his way up to this special plant!
Mullein is actually from the snapdragon family, and is one of my favorite springtime plants to forage. We live next to a river with some train tracks, which is the perfect environment for this unique “weed” to grow.
Shiloh is the best foraging companion; I swear he knows the edible plants for himself! He must have been attracted to the soft fur, he is an expert on that!

I’ve seen this all over the place but never knew what it was! Thank you Shiloh! I’ll have to look up some new recipes for it.
