While vacationing in a cozy cabin on Crystal Mountain, we decided to take a mid-day walk around the wood and surrounding neighborhood. We saw a lone animal walk across the street, completely unaware of our presence. Deer and elk are not strange to me; growing up in Washington means there are lots of animals that wander around residential areas. But this was quite a sight-the elk walked silently into a yard and once we looked hard enough, others began to pop up right in front of us!
All in all there were 12 elk-a full dozen! We stared and watched them for minutes on end. They must have been more amazed by us than we were by them—even our puppy was watching with baited breath. What an exciting sight!
What wildlife can you see in your area?
